    Hello Barry
I’ve been following you for a few months. I feel sad at your post today.
Howard and I are still pottering on in Bolton. Howard had a severe stroke three years ago which put him into a dementia care home. However, amazingly and wondrously he came home after a year, a very rare occurrence. He’s not back.as he was but doing very well, I have learned so much over the last few years which I could not have learned otherwise. God is good and shares our pain.
    In his love
    Anne

Good to hear from you again Barry, even allowing for the sad pretext in this case. Sorry not to have acknowledged earlier – I’m afraid we’re both coming down off the back of gruesome colds bequeathed by granddaughter in the course of her recent visit. Lockdowns all good, of course, but they do unfortunately give you a skewed sense of your own invulnerability when it’s time to go back out into the real world…

Talking both of the ‘real’ world and picking up things, of late I’ve actually been receiving a fairly regular feed from your quarter – or, rather, what at first glance purports to be from your quarter; these mailings take a, by now, familiar form, namely an invitation to examine a number of enclosed photos which you (or, more accurately, your online doppelgänger) suggest I’m “sure to recognise”. Similar approaches have also come in the guise of a cousin, who, when the matter was raised with her, told me she’d been hacked sometime at the beginning of the year, which may account for the deep fakery. At least gateway systems’ at this end seem to have been filtering out the ‘spam’ efficiently enough, so no pics. opened and no harm done! Anyway, hope that Symi did its best for you again after the improvising you had to do in May, as covered in the fascinating post back in early July! Had we made it back this year ourselves I worked out we’d have arrived at Diagoras in the middle of a monsoon and returned to something altogether similar on home turf towards the end of June. As it was, if the ’23 west of Scotland summer lasted for precisely a fortnight, enjoyment of it was immeasurably enhanced by the knowledge that the first week of it coincided with some of the worst of the Greek rain, which it would have been a penance to have experienced first hand had our holiday actually gone ahead. All the best from us both – and keep out of draughts (and away from small people, if possible), ron & Don xx
